Supporting Children with Special Needs Through Uncertainty and Crisis

Since the outbreak of the war, staff across Migdal Ohr’s branches have gone above and beyond to ensure that children with special needs continue to receive the care, stability, and support they depend on.

Behind the scenes, a remarkable team of dedicated volunteers works tirelessly each day, supporting children with a wide range of complex needs. For some, this care is constant – requiring multiple volunteers at any given time. Yet, no matter the challenge, every child is met with patience, compassion, and unwavering commitment.

To ensure safety without compromising care, programmes are now taking place in large, secure shelters that fully meet safety regulations and are thoughtfully designed to be accessible for children of all abilities. Within these protected spaces, staff have created something truly special – an environment filled with warmth, routine, and a sense of normality, even in the midst of uncertainty.

Daily life continues with intention and care. Hundreds of meals and snacks are lovingly prepared, and children are encouraged to take part in engaging, joyful activities that offer comfort, distraction, and moments of happiness during an incredibly difficult time.

During a recent visit to one of the branches, guests spent meaningful time with both the children and the devoted staff, offering words of encouragement and blessings. The visit was a powerful reminder not only of the resilience of these children, but also of the extraordinary dedication of those who stand beside them every single day.

In the face of ongoing challenges, this unwavering commitment ensures that every child continues to feel safe, supported, and never alone.
