Shining a Light of Hope: Spreading love and unity at Migdal Ohr

It’s been just over a month since the brutality and atrocities started in Israel and there are no words to describe the immense suffering, grieving and lack of safety that our brothers and sisters in Israel, and in the diaspora, are feeling. It almost feels impossible to bring light into this dark time, with so much trauma, disbelief and fear. With this in mind, in times of crisis, compassion does shine through.

However, Migdal Ohr has found a way to bring a renewed sense of hope and light to its people, be it to the 2,000 families evacuated to the 10,000 children in our care. Thanks to the ongoing generosity and efforts of our donors and community alike, we’ve been able to involve our families and ensure that we all stand as Am Israel. We continuously strive to bring opportunities where we create a sense of togetherness, unity, hope and collective healing from the unspeakable tragedies.

Here are some heartwarming ways we’ve helped bring some love and hope to our Migdal Ohr families. We took 100s of evacuees and families from Southern Israel to a theme park for the day just outside Jerusalem to temporarily escape their unbearable stress and displacement. We orchestrated a day full of laughter, games, and the opportunity to briefly set aside their worries, which was welcomed with open arms.

Students from Migdal Ohr hand braided tzitzit for our brave soldiers in an act of compassion and solidarity for them protecting our country and the future of Israel. Boys from Zoharim Youth Village are up early every day, dedicated to their pre-IDF training regimes, showing their unwavering spirit for our brave soldiers. Children from our special needs school, Pirchei Ora, and Mishpatchonim, our foster care, came together and created the most beautiful, heartfelt cards and blessings for our soldiers and their families. There’s something so special about receiving personal letters from a child displaying their real love and innocence.

We’ve brought light, fun and laughter at Hotel Shalom, where we’ve housed displaced families from Kibbutzim in the South. Not only were lodging, meals and life essentials distributed, but so much joy was brought to these kids by a balloon artist molding balloons for each child to enjoy, just as children should. Unity and support speak volumes, and make the difference in each and every one of these lives.

All these initiatives are possible because of the generosity of our supporters. Your continued commitment to Migdal Ohr is what makes these initiatives possible. Solidarity and support are truly transformative. Let’s remain united and bring warmth to those in distress. We’d love to join hands with you in our solidarity and support for Israel.

Please continue shining your light and spreading the word of our appeal to help in dire need in Israel: https://migdalohr.org.uk/israels-shield/
