A Letter from Amit Fraser, CEO of Migdal Ohr Europe
As we approach the High Holidays, a season of renewal, reflection and hope, it is impossible to ignore the immense challenges facing Israel today. The recent war with Iran has left a deep mark on our nation, a reality that continues to weigh heavily on families and communities across the country.
Today, nearly 2 million Israelis, including over 870,000 children, live below the poverty line. Since the outbreak of conflict, more than 200,000 families have been displaced, with tens of thousands still living in temporary shelters. For these families, the idea of sitting together around a table to enjoy a festive meal, something that should be simple and joyous, feels out of reach.
This is a heartbreaking truth, but it is not the full story. At Migdal Ohr, we are determined to write a different chapter, one of compassion, resilience and community.
For over 20 years, through our Chag Saveah Food Distribution Campaign, we have mobilised to ensure that no child and no family is left behind during the Chagim. Each year, we distribute 40,000 food parcels to those in desperate need. These parcels provide more than just nourishment. They restore dignity. They remind families that they are not alone. And they bring the light of the Chag into homes that would otherwise feel dark and uncertain.
I had the privilege of joining our volunteers to personally pack food boxes for families in need. Standing shoulder to shoulder with our community, I saw first hand how much hope and comfort a single parcel can bring. It was a powerful reminder that together, we can make an extraordinary difference.
But we cannot do it alone. This Rosh Hashanah, I am inviting our entire community in the UK, across Europe and beyond to stand with us.
I invite you to Sponsor a Rosh Hashanah meal, help pack boxes, or make a donation today. Your support will ensure that families across Israel can enter the New Year with dignity, nourishment and the knowledge that they are not forgotten.
Together, we can turn hardship into hope and bring the true spirit of the festival into every home.
Wishing you and your loved ones a year of health, peace and blessings.
Amit
