The Purim market at Orot BaEmek School was a vibrant celebration of joy, unity, and giving. This year’s event not only provided excitement and entertainment but also highlighted the values of love for Israel, volunteerism, and collective responsibility that define the students of these institutions.
A Celebration with Deeper Meaning
In a period marked by security tensions and challenges, the Purim market took on even greater significance. The day began with sirens from a drill at the nearby Air Force base, yet the students remained focused on spreading joy and positivity. The event featured inflatable attractions, a chocolate fountain, face painting, pancakes, competitions, a haunted cave, dance performances, and drumming. But beyond the fun, the true spirit of the day was the profound sense of giving and unity that permeated the entire campus.
Students Leading with Dedication
One of the most remarkable aspects of the event was the leadership of the 10th-grade students from Shelahvet High School. These students took full responsibility for organising and managing the activities, showcasing dedication, maturity, and a genuine commitment to the Purim spirit.
“The girls put their whole hearts into it, conducted themselves with maturity and dignity, and truly brought everyone into the Purim spirit,” said Nechami Bar Sheshet, a 10th-grade teacher at Shelahvet High School. “It was a festive event that carried an invaluable life lesson about giving, co-operation, and the ability to lead and make an impact.”
Creativity and Connection
The extensive preparations resulted in a variety of engaging and meaningful activities, including:
Escape Room: A themed challenge, “The Jewish Princess,” where students solved Purim-related riddles to escape King Achashverosh’s palace.
Creative Arts Room: A space for artistic expression and creativity.
Bowling and Raffle Rooms: Featuring Purim quizzes and exciting prizes.
Photography Booth: Operated by 10th-grade photography students who professionally captured and edited photos, creating special keepsakes for participants.
One of the most touching moments came from the popcorn booth. Each student received the name of a classmate and prepared a personalised popcorn cone, writing compliments and words of appreciation before presenting it as a gift.
“This is exactly the spirit we aim to cultivate. It was moving to see how the students gave to their friends wholeheartedly,” shared Hadassa Peri, the social co-ordinator at Ohrot BaEmek School. “Especially in a time like this, when unity is so crucial, the girls demonstrated genuine generosity and the ability to see one another in a positive light.”
The Power of Unity and Giving
What stood out most in this year’s Purim market was the atmosphere of unity and love and respect for each other. The event was not just about individual joy but about teamwork, collaboration, and giving to others.
The 10th-grade students of Shelahvet High School poured their hearts into creating a day that was much more than a Purim celebration – it was an experience of love, strength, and belonging. This event beautifully embodied the message that through teamwork, faith, and generosity, each person can grow, rise, and build a resilient future.
The Purim market at Orot BaEmek was a testament to the power of giving and the impact that acts of kindness can have on an entire community. The students left not only with smiles but with a deeper understanding of the values that will shape their futures.
