Migdal Ohr UK proudly hosted the exclusive “Beacon of Hope” Dinner at the Sheraton Grand London Park Lane on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. This remarkable event gathered 120 dedicated donors, demonstrating unwavering strength, hope, and unity for Israel in these trying times. The dinner was instrumental in supporting Migdal Ohr’s vital “Orphans’ Plan for Life” campaign, which is committed to providing essential care and support for the 800 orphans whose lives have been profoundly impacted by the tragic events of October 7 and the ongoing conflict. Guests were honoured to hear from Chaim-Dan Blumkin, who travelled to London 24 hours after leaving his post in Gaza. Orphaned at age two, Chaim-Dan was introduced to Migdal Ohr at 14, where he finally discovered a sense of community and hope—a place to call home alongside children from similarly difficult backgrounds.
After serving a decade as an IDF commander, Chaim-Dan returned to Migdal Ohr with a heartfelt determination to give back. Today, he serves as the Programme Director at the Migdal Ohr Zoharim Youth Village. He shared his journey: ”I was once an orphan, alone in the world, and the Migdal Ohr family changed everything. Today, I have my own family and am no longer alone. Migdal Ohr gave me a new chance at life. I owe my family, career, and future to the vision and support of Migdal Ohr.”
Rabbi Yitzchak Dovid Grossman, founder of Migdal Ohr and renowned spiritual leader from Israel, delivered a heartfelt address to the audience. His unwavering passion and love for the children of Israel shone brightly. He brought a powerful message of peace and hope and a heartfelt call to action for supporting Israel’s vulnerable children. Since its humble beginnings in 1972 with just 18 boys, Migdal Ohr has become a beacon of hope, transforming the lives of over 25,000 graduates.
His vision of providing every child with a home, care, and the opportunity to thrive continues to inspire and light the way for unity and strength within the Jewish community in Israel and the diaspora. Migdal Ohr became more than an institution for these children – it became a home where they received the love, care, and support needed to rebuild their lives and secure brighter futures.
Rabbi Grossman emphasised the urgency of supporting Israel’s orphans and vulnerable children during these uncertain times, reminding the audience that these children represent Israel’s future. His message resonated deeply, underscoring the vital role of Migdal Ohr’s mission in shaping a generation filled with hope and resilience. The event, infused with the Rabbi’s spiritual energy, brought us together as one family, fostering a deep sense of unity and peace for our brothers and sisters in Israel.
Amit Fraser, Executive Director of Migdal Ohr UK, commented, “In the wake of this tragedy, Migdal Ohr immediately stepped up to deliver critical relief. We have been working tirelessly to support displaced families, providing food, shelter, education, and emotional care to those who have lost everything. Perhaps the most heart-breaking consequence of this war is the growing number of orphans who have lost their parents and sense of security. Thanks to our generous donors, our work has the power to transform and uplift the lives of countless young individuals.”
Keith Fraser, alongside best-selling author of What Would You Do If You Were Not Afraid and renowned motivational speaker Michal Oshman, expertly chaired the evening, guiding the event with passion and purpose. Guests were captivated by the heartfelt performances of singer Serge Fagelman, whose talent and energy brought an unforgettable dimension of entertainment to the night.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated trustees – Maurice Benisty (Chair of Trustees), Andrew Album, Joey Esfandi, Richard Haruni and Oren Peleg, the passionate members of the Young Committee headed up by Hannah Benisty, and our generous sponsors for their invaluable contributions in making this evening truly unforgettable.
