This year at the packing site for Chag Saveah really is an incredible sight! Volunteers representing a total cross-section of Israeli society coming together to prepare food packages for needy families across Israel in the run up to Rosh Hashanah.
Israel may be ‘start up nation’ but sadly huge income disparities remain and, as anyone who has visited the country can’t fail to notice, it’s an expensive place.
For many years, the names Rabbi Yitzhak Dovid Grossman and Migdal Ohr have been synonymous with efforts to encourage Israelis to help those less fortunate than themselves by donating their money or their time to his famous Chag Saveah campaign
Chag Saveah (which means a satisfying festival) is a clever play on the classic holiday greeting Chag Sameach (which means happy holiday).
Hosted at one of the largest army bases in Israel, the food packing is a military style operation. Volunteers pass down the line filling each box with a variety of donated food and drink items which, once full, are sealed and taken for distribution to deserving families across the country.
It is just one further example of the numerous ways that Migdal Ohr brings light to people in Israel.
