Standing Together in Remembrance and Solidarity: Two years since the 7th of October atrocities

On Sunday, 5th October, Migdal Ohr UK participated in a special solidarity event in partnership with other community organisations. Thousands gathered in London’s Trafalgar Square to stand in solidarity with Israel and the global Jewish community, marking two years since the atrocities of 7th October 2023.

Organised by the Board of Deputies of British Jews and the Jewish Leadership Council (JLC), the powerful memorial brought together survivors, bereaved families, faith leaders, and allies from across the UK. The square filled from corner to corner, with candles, flags, and heartfelt prayers illuminating the steps of the National Gallery.

Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis addressed the crowd, recalling “the precious lives who were mercilessly taken from our midst on 7th October,” and urging the community to continue to remember “all subsequent atrocities since that original day.”

Board of Deputies President Phil Rosenberg reminded those gathered that “in the face of loss, our community remains steadfast, determined to defend Israel’s right to exist in security and peace” and to “confront antisemitism wherever it appears.”

In a deeply moving moment, 23 candles were lit by senior community figures and relatives of victims – among them Holocaust survivor Mala Tribich – in memory of the kibbutzim and communities devastated by the Hamas-led attacks, which left over 1,200 people murdered and around 250 taken hostage.

The gathering was not only one of mourning but of unity and resilience – a testament to the unbreakable Jewish spirit that continues to shine, even in darkness.

At Migdal Ohr, we hold all victims, hostages, and their families in our hearts and prayers. We stand shoulder to shoulder with our brothers and sisters in Israel and around the world, honouring their memories through our commitment to life, education, and hope for the next generation.
