At Afikei Ohr Youth Village, we are so fortunate that Noah joined us around a year ago. She has strengthened herself to a better place of self-discovery and healing through hard work, dedication, and commitment.
Following a very unstable childhood, Noah attended seven different schools and moved frequently. This brought tremendous insecurity and instability, and she never felt like she belonged anywhere. Coupled with being assaulted as a child, Noah adopted silence and masking her feelings as a way to cope and survive.
Alienated from her surroundings and lacking support from anyone close, Noah had no understanding of who she was, where she belonged, or what was happening in her personal life. As a result, she retreated and put on a mask to portray that everything was just fine. She grew up avoiding the spotlight, hiding her trauma, feelings, and struggles.
Noah eventually met a partner with whom she dropped her mask, thinking she had found love and healing. However, he had evil intentions, which further wounded her and deepened her internal turmoil.
Fast forward to today, Noah has started to understand who she is through the incredible art courses and therapies offered at the Youth Village. She has come to terms with her past and is learning to make sense of her experiences, piecing together the puzzle of her life. Fortunately, she has begun to regain control and is on a constant journey of self-healing and self-discovery.
Noah has found her place in the Village, where she is respected, listened to, and feels she belongs. She is now on an upward trajectory, using her past traumas as tools to build a more meaningful and stable foundation.
All of this is a testament to the amazing work done at Afikei Youth Village, by its facilitators, staff, counselors, youth, and supporters. As the proverb goes, “If you’ve saved one life, you save an entire world,” and this is certainly true for Noah. She has been saved from her harsh beginnings and now has a renewed trajectory full of hope, belief, and strength.
