This week the traditional sports day took place at the Zoharim Youth Village. This day provided students with an opportunity to engage, learn, and grow together through movement, co-operation, and team spirit.
This year, the sports day took place against the backdrop of security tensions and the Iron Swords war. In times like these, when daily life is filled with challenges, events like the sports day take on even greater meaning. They provide students with positive experiences, emotional release, and inner strength that help them cope with difficulties, both on and off the field.
However, this sports day was much more than just an escape. It was a life lesson. The sports activities not only required physical effort but also taught the students to believe in their abilities, set goals, and work hard to achieve them. In soccer, basketball, and volleyball, the students clearly understood that through teamwork, mutual support, and shared responsibility, meaningful successes can be achieved.
More than personal achievements, what made this day particularly meaningful was the collective spirit – students helping, encouraging, supporting, and collaborating with one another. This is exactly the spirit that forms the backbone of the Zoharim Youth Village – deep faith in every student, believing that they can reach their full potential, if they choose to, and if others believe in them and support them with the right tools.
The principal of the Zoharim Youth Village, Mr. Tzachi Hiyon, shared his thoughts on the importance of sports day, saying: “This day is not just an enjoyable experience but a real opportunity to develop personal resilience, perseverance, and a drive for excellence. We see how successes on the field carry over into other areas of life – studies, social conduct, and self-confidence. The students learn to set goals, collaborate, and understand that when they support each other, they can go far.”
Especially in this challenging time, when we are required to overcome obstacles outside the field, these events remind us of the power of human and educational values: mental resilience, camaraderie, mutual responsibility, and hope.
