Honoring Daniel Hemo: A Hero On and Off the Battlefield

One of Migdal Ohr’s alumni, Daniel Hemo (age 20), was tragically killed in battle, serving in the 202nd Battalion of the Paratrooper Brigade.

Daniel Hemo, one of the five IDF soldiers killed in a friendly fire incident in northern Gaza, was more than a dedicated soldier; he was a lifesaver. Just before the war began on October 7th, Hemo was identified as a bone marrow match for a woman in her 60s.

Originally set to be discharged from the army on October 7 to start the donation process, Hemo’s plans were disrupted by the sudden Hamas attack. On that same day, his unit, the 202 Paratrooper’s Battalion, was engaged in intense combat with Hamas terrorists in Israeli border towns.

As the war continued, the condition of Hemo’s bone marrow recipient deteriorated. Recognising the urgency, his commander allowed him to proceed with the donation. On October 26, while still actively serving in Gaza, Hemo successfully donated his bone marrow, saving the woman’s life.

Daniel attended Migdal Ohr’s middle school, where he was loved by all. He always echoed that his dream was to make a significant impact in the IDF, protecting Israel – and that he did.

After his selfless act, Hemo returned to the battlefield, where he continued to serve with bravery. Hemo’s legacy is one of heroism, compassion, and sacrifice, both on the front lines and through his life-saving bone marrow donation.

We send our deepest condolences to his family, and may his memory always be a blessing.
