What a year it’s been here in Israel, especially since October 7th. On one hand, it feels incredibly difficult to carry on with life as usual; on the other hand, life must go on, even with collective heavy hearts. At Migdal Ohr, our staff and children share the unified feeling of worry and loss in Israel—it’s impossible not to. However, as the country’s largest welfare organisation, we strive to create a stable and safe environment where our children feel they belong and are cared for both physically and emotionally.
As summer arrived, Migdal Ohr organised numerous fun activities for our children across our various facilities. The laughter, smiles, and bonding made each and every outing worthwhile. These events ensured that our children could enjoy themselves and create happy memories with their friends. Below are some of the wonderful activities they participated in over the past few weeks.
The boys from Zoharim Youth Village had a blast recently. They enjoyed a day of paintballing and spending quality time together. They also embarked on an archaeological dig, where they discovered an ancient coin, fascinating them and deepening their connection to their heritage from thousands of years ago. Additionally, they witnessed the birth of several sheep and goats on the village farm – a heartwarming reminder that life and miracles continue, even amid darkness. These enriching experiences will stay with them forever.
The boys from Ohr Yisraeli had equally unforgettable experiences, from the thrill of quad-biking to the joy of bodyboarding in the sea. They cherished the chance to laugh together, momentarily escaping their troubles and simply enjoying each other’s company.
The girls from Orot Be’emek and Afikei Ohr spent hours enjoying the freedom of the sea, playing on inflatables and swimming without a care in the world. They also shared the delight of learning to roll their own sushi, creating and then savouring their delicious masterpieces together. It was a beautiful bonding experience, filled with laughter, creativity, and connection.
All of this is a testament to the amazing generosity of our donors. These days and experiences wouldn’t be possible without your kindness. Our children deserve this happiness and the opportunity to feel like they belong somewhere and have people to call their family.
