In Memory of Sgt. Major Meir Shimon Amar z”l – A Beloved Migdal Ohr Alumnus Who Fell in Battle
With great sorrow and heavy hearts, the Migdal Ohr family mourns the loss of Sgt. Major Meir Shimon Amar z”l, a cherished alumnus of our Metivta programme, who fell heroically in battle during the Iron Swords war in Gaza. Meir lost his life alongside four other brave soldiers from the Netzach Yehuda Battalion, in selfless defense of Israel.
Rabbi Grossman paid a condolence visit to the Amar family, embracing the grieving parents with compassion and deep pain. With tears in their eyes, they shared how Meir had insisted on returning to the front lines, compelled by a profound sense of mission and the strength he drew from his years at Migdal Ohr.
“That’s how Rabbi Grossman taught us,” Meir had said. “To give. To believe. To fight for what is sacred.”
Meir embodied the very spirit of Migdal Ohr – resilient, kind, and fiercely devoted to his people. To his teachers, peers, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him, Meir was not only a student, but a beacon of light, strength, and faith.
His loss is deeply felt within the Migdal Ohr community and across Israel. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Amar family and to the families of the other fallen heroes:
Sgt. Moshe Nissim Farash z”l (20) of Jerusalem
Staff Sgt. Res. Binyamin Assouline z”l (28) of Haifa
Sgt. Noam Aharon Masgedian z”l (20) of Jerusalem
Sgt. Moshe Shmuel Noll z”l (21) of Beit Shemesh
May their memories be a blessing. May their courage never be forgotten.
And may we continue to raise students like Meir – towers of light who live and give with all their hearts.
