The Power of Giving: How Ohr Yisraeli Empowers Youth

Ohr Yisraeli Youth Movement offers a transformative space for youth across Israel, teaching them that helping others not only benefits the receiver but also empowers the giver. This principle was evident when a branch of Ohr Yisraeli for young women in Beit Shemesh visited a local hospital, bringing gifts and joy to children in need.
Yossi Wachtal, an Ohr Yisraeli activity organiser, shared the powerful impact of such acts: “By giving back to people, by walking into a hospital and giving from their own, by caring and making other people happy, it gives them an amazing feeling of being a part. They really don’t have that feeling in their lives; they feel valued because people are happy because of them.” Wachtal added, “When they hear ‘thank you’ or ‘you made me so happy,’ or ‘you made my day,’ that really builds them up.”
Ohr Yisraeli provides a vital support system for at-risk youth, offering safe spaces in communities across Israel where they can find direction and purpose. Many of these young people, especially since the outbreak of the war, feel lost and disconnected from their families and schools. Ohr Yisraeli helps them reconnect, not just with their families, but with their community through meaningful activities.
